Golf Holidays – For the Healthy Holiday

For the Healthy Holiday.

According to research by Golf Digest, golf isn’t necessarily the healthiest of sports. Although the professionals increasingly have strict training regimes to help them be the best they can be with their golf clubs, it seems the amateur player or those who play for leisure aren’t very athletic. But taking a golf holiday could be a great way to boost your health. Golf holidays are a fantastic opportunity to indulge in the usual holiday treats, whilst feeling justified thanks to all the fresh air and walking you’ll do!

Why you should take golf holidays to get fit – The Golf Digest statistics for the 2006 health study:

  • 76% of golfers drink alcohol with an average of 6.8 drinks a week.
  • 9% of golfers who responded to the survey said they consumed 10 or more beers during a round of golf even when they weren’t on golf holidays. There’s no doubt that alcohol will affect your control and interfere with any training.
  • The younger golfers under 40 are more likely to drink while playing with 28% claiming to have had ten or more beers in a round of golf.
  • 52% of golfers under 40 play with a bad hangover.
  • If you take fitness training seriously you can’t smoke. Yet 11% of golfers smoke cigarettes while playing and 33% smoke cigars on occasion.

Golf Holidays and health

Of course going on holiday is all about relaxation and having fun. The great thing about golf holidays is it doesn’t matter what kind of golfer you are. If you want to indulge in the good life and just relax on the course, you can. But if you want to use the time to seriously improve your game, you have gyms and spas on hand at your golf holiday resort to help. If you want to be a pro, you have to act like one. Golf in the professional arena is increasingly breaking free of the gentleman’s club image.

Lifestyle change

As well as the obvious success of Tiger Woods, who has a strict training regime, other professionals are tired of the image of golfers being unfit and overweight. Golfers are athletes, and golf holidays can be a great way to get away from it all and get fit too.

Golf holidays - Be your best

The fact is, if you are serious about the game you have to be serious about your body and your health. Even if you are a senior golf player who takes golf holidays to leisurely enjoy the game, golf holidays can give you an incredible boost. Research has shown that the game of golf for the older population is one of the most effective sports available. While high intensity of exercise was reached for just 6% of young players, the elderly golfers hit 70% high intensity playing 18 holes. Taking golf holidays is a great way to enjoy the game and get fit.
